What are my Options for SIL if my Circumstances Change?
What are my Options for SIL if my Circumstances Change?
24 August 2023

If your circumstances have changed and your Supported Independent Living (SIL) funding no longer meets your needs, you will need to explore your options so that it meets your current needs. It can be difficult to know where to start. This step-by-step process will help.

Step 1: Engage with an OT to complete a SIL Report

    • This report should provide an overview of the type of funding that you require you should live in based on your current support needs
    • It usually includes recommendations on areas such as support ratios, overnight support, home modifications and what type of dwelling is suitable (for example a lowset home)

Step 2: Complete the NDIS Home and Living Form and the NDIS Change of Details or Change of Situation Form

    • Information about these processes and a copy of the forms can be found here (Home and Living) and here (Change of Details or Change of Situation)
    • These forms can be completed by you (the participant), or by someone else acting on your behalf, including an informal support person (such as a family member), your Support Worker or your Support Coordinator

Step 3: Submit the SIL Report and the NDIS forms to the NDIS

    • Once the NDIS reviews the documents, they will advise if they have accepted or rejected the request to have your NDIS plan reviewed
    • If the NDIS accepts the request, you will be provided with a plan review to discuss the change in needs and how best to address this

Step 4: Attend an unscheduled plan review with an NDIS delegate

    • At this review, your support needs will be discussed as well as what was recommended in the SIL report
    • The NDIS may choose to provide funding to explore a new SIL environment, and they may increase support coordination funding to accommodate for this exploration
