The National Disability Insurance scheme (NDIS) is Australia’s first national scheme for people with a disability. The NDIS was launched by the Federal Government in 2013 and provides eligible Australians with funding based on your personal needs and your goals.
Each NDIS journey is different and we’re here to support you on yours. We’ll work with you to ensure that you have choice and control over your own journey.
Understanding the NDIS
How the NDIS works
The NDIS can seem confusing but we’re here to help. Here’s an easy step-by-step guide.
STEP 1 |
Am I eligible? |
You can check your eligibility for the NDIS by using the Eligibility Checklist from the NDIA. |
STEP 2 |
How do I apply? |
If you meet the eligibility criteria you can ask to become an NDIS participant. You do this by making an Access Request. |
If you are eligible and receive an “access decision letter” the next step is to create your plan. |

STEP 3 |
Creating your plan |
Your plan meeting will take place. The NDIA will ask you questions about how you are going in different areas of your life, what goals you would like to reach and what kind of support you need. This information will help to create your plan. |
STEP 4 |
Using your plan |
Once you have a plan, you’ll need to understand the different budgets and how the plan is managed. The NDIS has some useful information on using your plan. Don’t worry we can help get you started with this. |
STEP 5 |
Reviewing & plan your goals |
Once you are using your plan, your plan review is an opportunity to check that your supports are working for you to help you reach your goals. If some supports could be working better you can discuss this in your review. |
